Moto Tips
Motorola is known for building phones that give users a clean version of Android with custom features that let them do even more. While running a clean version of Android is important, Motorola wants users to learn about Moto’s unique features as well. This focus on feature discovery led to the creation of a tips app where users can go to learn about their phone’s best features.
Tips can be found in Moto, the app that pulls together most of the Motorola-designed features on each device. Once users get to the main menu, they see a clean list of categories that highlight what’s new, tips for getting started, Motorola’s user-favorite features, and tips for capturing better photos and videos.
Many tips include an action button that takes users to a tutorial or settings screen. This allows Tips to cleanly show high level information while the corresponding apps handle more granular instruction.
Tips widget
The Tips widget shows users a new tip each day until all tips have been seen. When a user taps on the widget, they’re taken to the corresponding tip. From there, users can continue through the flow to see the rest of the tips.
My perspective
Tips is one of the first Motorola experiences I helped bring from idea to reality. It’s been a rewarding journey that’s strengthened both my content strategy and copywriting skills. On the strategy side, I’ve learned to determine what type of content is tip worthy and how to handle presenting unrelated information in an easily digestible package. As a copywriter, I’ve learned to balance instructional and promotional tones of voice so users feel like they’re being encouraged, not sold.
